Dry needling at The Addison is used to help ease muscle tension, improve movement, and support recovery. Fine, sterile needles are inserted into areas of tightness or “trigger points” to create a controlled release response, improving circulation and reducing overactive muscle activity.
Research shows that dry needling can assist in reducing pain and improving range of motion when combined with active rehabilitation. Our physiotherapists and massage therapists are trained in advanced dry needling techniques and will integrate it thoughtfully when it adds value to your treatment.
Dry needling differs from acupuncture in that it is grounded in contemporary anatomy and pain science. It works best when combined with hands-on soft tissue therapy, mobility work, and progressive exercise — helping our valued Marrickville and Inner West clients move with more ease and confidence over the long term.
Ben's creates simple and achievable programs for all clients and ensure that longevity is at the forefront of their rehab plan.

FAQs
What is dry needling?
Dry needling uses fine, sterile needles to release areas of muscle tightness or trigger points. It is used to reduce tension and improve movement.
How is dry needling different from acupuncture?
Dry needling is based on contemporary anatomy and muscle function. Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine and meridian points.
Does dry needling hurt?
You may feel a brief muscle twitch or mild ache. Most people describe it as uncomfortable rather than painful, and the sensation settles quickly.
What conditions can dry needling help with?
It can assist with muscle tightness, tendon pain, headaches related to neck tension, sport-related overload, and movement-related discomfort.
How will I feel after treatment?
You may feel relief or light muscle soreness for up to 24 hours. Gentle movement and hydration usually help it settle.
Can dry needling be combined with other treatments?
Yes. It is often used alongside soft tissue release, mobility work, and exercise-based rehabilitation to support long-term outcomes.
