Post-Operation Rehabilitation

Ben is our Senior Physiotherapist and has an extensive background in Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy.

Ben was involved with the South Sydney Rabbitohs system for 4 years as Head Physiotherapist for both the U17’s and U19’s squads. In his time at the club, he also assisted the medical team with the NRL squad. Prior to this, he worked with football teams Canterbury Bankstown FC and Rockdale City Suns in the National Premier League.

He has continued his professional development by completing courses - Athletic Groin Pain Symposium, Upper Limb Rehabilitation in Sport and Mastering Lower Limb Tendinopathy as well as dry needling courses.

He has a special interest in the treatment of complex hamstring and acute lower limb injuries. Ben believes that everybody is an athlete in their own right and therefore each individual should receive the same level of expertise and ongoing care like that of a professional athlete.

At The Addison, post-operative rehabilitation is structured and evidence-based. Our team has extensive experience supporting recovery following orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures, including ACL reconstruction, joint replacement, tendon repair, spinal surgery, and fracture management. We work closely with surgeons across Sydney to ensure rehabilitation follows the appropriate protocol while also addressing your individual goals and functional needs.

Rehabilitation begins with a clear assessment and a personalised plan. Treatment may include hands-on therapy, mobility and gait retraining, progressive strength work, load management, and strategies to restore stability and movement confidence. Programs are reviewed and adjusted as capacity improves to ensure progress remains safe and measurable.

Our clinicians have worked in both clinical and high-performance environments across NSW, allowing us to understand the surgical recovery process from early protection phases through to return to work, daily activity, or sport.

Our aim is to support a safe, confident, and sustainable return to the activities that matter most to clients across the Inner West.

Ben's creates simple and achievable programs for all clients and ensure that longevity is at the forefront of their rehab plan.

FAQs

  • When should I start treatment after surgery?

Rehabilitation usually begins within the first 1–2 weeks, depending on your surgeon’s protocol. We also often see clients before surgery to improve strength and mobility, which can support smoother recovery afterward.

  • Do I need a referral from my surgeon?

No referral is required. However, we will request your surgical notes or post-operative protocol to ensure your rehabilitation follows the correct guidelines.

  • What does a post-op rehab session involve?

Sessions typically include guided mobility work, progressive strengthening, swelling and pain management, and education on safe movement and load. Your program advances as healing allows.

  • How long does post-operative rehab take?

Timeframes vary by procedure. Most programs run across several phases, often spanning 3–12 months, progressing from early protection to return-to-function.

  • Can I start rehab if I’m still in pain or in a brace/on crutches?

Yes. Early-stage rehab is designed to work within restrictions and focus on safe movement, circulation, and gradual strength.

  • Do you communicate with my surgeon or specialist?

Yes. We regularly update your surgeon and medical team with your consent to ensure care remains consistent and aligned with your surgical plan.
